Shohei Ono solo exhibition

In Tokyo, at CIBONE in Omotesando, the exhibition “SHOHEI ONO Solo Exhibition – Beyond the Border 2024” will be held. Featuring new works, this exhibition invites you to experience the unwavering commitment and powerful creations of Shohei Ono, who never compromises in his pottery making.

When facing Shohei Ono’s ceramics, there is a somewhat combative gaze, a desire to see landscapes beyond theories, rules, and lines drawn by others. To achieve a stronger, richer expression of clay, he bravely confronts the fundamentals of pottery, pushing the limits of all things, excavating and kneading the clay with a dedication that sacrifices time and life, and continuously stoking the kiln fire.

As a result, a collection of vessels is displayed, open to everyone, possessing the right to be held by anyone, yet unseen before. With each passing year and each additional piece of work, these vessels feel stronger, more beautiful, and singular in their existence. Both Shohei Ono and we, the audience of this era, desire the scenery reflected in the vessels that goes beyond imagination. His uncompromising attitude, the reason he never stops his hands each day, lies there.

Creating something beyond is not easy, but in Shohei Ono’s work, we strongly feel that there is nothing that can surpass the one who challenges that boundary.
