In 2010, I began sculpting without any prior knowledge, as if guided by an invisible force. My lack of understanding continues to deepen, but through sculpture, I found a point of connection between two entities that share something ineffable. The self and the other, humans and nature, me and the world. Instead of drawing lines along the boundaries that are quick to divide as I write these words, I have come to believe that I sculpt to create points of connection. Points are barely visible and disappear quickly, so I must strike them repeatedly. Now, having completed one cycle of the Chinese zodiac since my first solo exhibition, I approach sculpture as a marker of a new phase, a small sign, or perhaps a small light to ignite in the world.

In September 2023, Takatoshi Kuronuma’s first art book will be released. During the exhibition, we will offer special limited-edition copies of the book, each with a hand-signed sketch.
